Object Description

Photograph of the 1957 Eureka College graduation ceremony during Ronald Reagan's visit to Eureka College at which he attended the commencement for the graduates. Ronald Reagan attended Eureka College between 1928 and 1932. He was a member of the TKE's Iota Chapter during his time in Eureka and served as its President in 1928. Reagan was also active in school including theater and football. At the time of the photograph, Ronald Reagan was working as an actor in Hollywood. As one of Eureka College's most famous celebrity, Reagan's arrival to campus was always celebrated by staff, faculty, students, Eureka College Alums, and the citizens of Eureka. 

This black and white photograph shows Ronald Reagan in the receiving line of the Graduation Ceremony. He stands in the center of the photograph wearing his graduation regalia including the Academia gown and academia hood. He is shaking hands with a young women who is receiving her diploma. She wears the same graduation attire as Reagan, but she is still donning her mortarboard hat, which Reagan has at this point removed from wearing himself. The gentleman next to Reagan wears graduation regalia as well and holds a piece of paper in his hands. This paper could either be the list of names of the students or the graduating woman's diploma. This man's purpose is to hand the graduates their diploma cover at this moment. Behind Reagan are seated attendees of the graduation including staff of Eureka College and graduating students. To the right of the camera is a microphone on its stand. 

The identities of the attendees are unknown at this time.
