Object Description

Photograph of Ronald Reagan during his 1957 visit to Eureka College at which he attended the commencement for the graduates. . Ronald Reagan attended Eureka College between 1928 and 1932. He was a member of the TKE's Iota Chapter during his time in Eureka and served as its President in 1928. Reagan was also active in school including theater and football. At the time of the photograph, Ronald Reagan was working as an actor in Hollywood. As one of Eureka College's most famous celebrity, Reagan's arrival to campus was always celebrated by staff, faculty, students, Eureka College Alums, and the citizens of Eureka. 

This black and white photograph is a posed shot of a group of attendees to the celebration prior to the graduation that was attended by Ronald and Nancy Reagan. The couple stands on the right side of the photograph next to one another looking at the camera. Ronald stands wearing a white suit, a white button up shirt, and a black tie. Nancy stands nearer the camera wearing a high collared white dress with black dots along it and a metallic bracelet on her right arm which she holds along her stomach. To the front of her is one gentleman, who stands smiling at the camera wearing a light colored suit and dark tie and handkerchief. 

Behind and to the side of the Reagans along the left side of the photograph stands at least nine people; 3 men who were suits, and five women who are wearing dresses of various patterns and styles. Due to the age of the attendees, it can be assumed that they are alums or staff of Eureka College, rather than young college students.

The group's location and the identity of the attendees, except for Ronald and Nancy Reagan, are unknown. There is slight damage to the photograph across the top and right side that gives the appearance of a crease through its shape and color. It is unknown how the damage was sustained.
