Object Description
Photograph of the 1957 Eureka College graduation ceremony during Ronald Reagan's visit to Eureka College at which he attended the commencement for the graduates. Ronald Reagan attended Eureka College between 1928 and 1932. He was a member of the TKE's Iota Chapter during his time in Eureka and served as its President in 1928. Reagan was active in school including theater and football. At the time of the photograph, Ronald Reagan was working as an actor in Hollywood. As one of Eureka College's most famous celebrity, Reagan's arrival to campus was always celebrated by staff, faculty, students, Eureka College Alums, and the citizens of Eureka.
This black and white photograph shows Ronald Reagan, in suit and tie, working alongside several students and Eureka College staff to clean dishes. The students and staff member crowd around Reagan as he dries a white dish with a white towel. As Reagan is actively drying the dish as the photograph is taken, the dish and towel are blurred. In front of the men are several piles of bowls, plates, cups which are being prepared for the meal which will be served in honor of the graduation and in honor of Reagan's appearance. Behind the men are several cabinets of dining wear which gives the impression that the scene is taking place in the kitchen of the college. The men, except Reagan, wear white aprons over their clothes. Their identities are unknown at this time.
